“FALL IN

for the

Horse Soldier Side Match.”

Horse Soldier commemorates the service of Cavalry Troopers, Scouts, Rangers, Militias, Mounties,  (and even the Infantry) that patrolled and policed the North American frontier.   If your alter ego wears the black field hat and Cavalry boots, you should come give this match a try.

The match will be 10 rounds, five pistol at Cowboy Rifle targets, and 5 rifle at 50 yard targets.  There are two classes:  Trooper and Scout.

In the Trooper class, the pistol must be a SASS legal single action revolver of at least .40 caliber (including .38-40).  The rifle can be any period correct single shot, external hammer  rifle or carbine of at least .30 caliber, firing a rimmed pre-1899 rifle cartridge. For this match, the Martini Henry is allowed.

In the Scout class, any SASS legal pistols and rifles (rifle or pistol caliber) are allowed. For this match the Winchester 1895 (or clone) is allowed.)

Of course, lead bullets only.

Course of fire will be rifle first, followed by pistol.  Pistol will be fired “Duelist” style (cocked and fired single handed.)

In both classes, pistols will be staged.  Single shot rifles will be staged with the action open and chamber empty. Ammunition to be staged at the shooting position or carried in belt, belt slide, cartridge box or bandoleer.  Lever guns may be loaded with up to five rounds and staged with action closed and an empty chamber.

Rifle targets will be at Cody Dixon distance (40-60 yards).  Pistol targets will be at 8-12 yards).

Come try your hand shooting at longer range (maybe while whistling “Garryowen”).
